Despite our best efforts, all of us crave for a snack sometimes. To avoid eating too much, but still enjoy good food the compromise would be choosing healthy low-calorie snacks. This can also come with lack of taste, but not always! Here are 5 great snack ideas that are delicious but won’t cause unwanted weight gain.

Fruit skewers

This is a healthy, yet tasty desert that is very easy to make, perfect for warm summer days. All you need are some skewer sticks, preferably made of wood. You can use any fruits with a firm texture, such as strawberries, cantaloupe and apples. Cut the large fruits into bite-sized pieces and place them on the skewers.

Roasted Pumpkin SeedsOven-baked Pumpkin Seeds

This recipe is great if you crave a salty snack while on a diet. Pumpkin seeds are very nutritious and taste great when baked. All you have to do is cover the seeds with a bit of cooking oil or beaten egg white and sprinkle salt on top. Place the seeds in a baking tray on baking sheet and leave them in the oven at 150 °C/ 300 °F for 45 minutes.

This healthy snack is great for parties! It also takes little effort to prepare. Boil 6 eggs, slice them lengthwise and remove the yolks. In a bowl, puree 1 avocado and the boiled egg yolks ( you can use the blender or just a fork, depending on the texture you prefer). Add finely chopped cilantro, lemon juice to taste, 1 finely chopped garlic clove (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder) and salt to taste. Use the guacamole paste to fill the egg white halves.

This classic desert is extremely easy to make – all you have to do is remove the stubs and fill each apple with one teaspoon of sugar mixed with cinnamon. Place the apples in a baking tray and leave them in the oven at medium heat for about 1 hour. One baked apple has less than 100 calories.

Carrot and Raisin SaladGrated carrot and raisin salad

This salad is a beautiful combination of sweet, sour and salty. Mix 200 grams of grated carrots with two tablespoons of raisins. Drizzle balsamic vinegar or lime juice on top and add salt to taste. It is great as a snack but it’s also suitable as a side dish next to grilled chicken breast.
