How To Easily Make Swimsuits Last Longer

If you decide to follow these simple tricks that make swimsuits last longer, you can wear them for many years to come and not spend your hard-earned money on new ones every summer season.

Own several suits

It can be very difficult to find a swimsuit that looks just as good on you as you imagined before trying it, but generally, it’s a good idea to own at least two of them. This way you can rotate them and not wear the same one every day while you’re on vacation.

Having more suits will ensure each one has at least one day to breathe before you wear it again and prevent them from becoming damaged too soon.

Rinse and repeat

How To Make Swimsuits Last Longer

Pool water is full of chlorine and other chemical agents that will slowly ruin your swimsuits. The same goes for the salty sea water, but even the sunscreen that transfers to the swimsuit from your own body shouldn’t be left on it.

Be sure to rinse your swimsuit after every wear – you don’t even need to take it off. Just jump in the shower and rinse it while it’s on you. Optionally you can lather it up with a bit of body wash too.

Do not machine wash

The elastic material swimsuits are made of can wear much faster if you clean them in the washing machine. As a result, it is best to wash your swimsuits by hand, in lukewarm water using a mild detergent for delicate fabric. Also, rinse them well to get rid of all the detergent as leaving that in can also ruin the fabric of your swimsuits.

Never wear expensive suits in the hot tub

The hot tub water is also full of chlorine, and together with the high temperature, it can significantly shorten the life of your swimsuit. Whenever you want to spend a few relaxing moments in the hot tub, opt for a cheaper swimsuit you don’t care much about and keep your more expensive items to wear at the beach.

Skip the detergent and use vinegar instead

Vinegar is a great alternative to detergent when washing your swimsuits. It has antibacterial and deodorizing properties, plus it can also soften hard water and make it easier to remove impurities from your swimsuit. Simply pour 1/4 cup of vinegar in a sink full of lukewarm water and allow the suit to soak in it for 5 minutes, then rinse with fresh water.

Dry flat, away from sunlight

The sun can slowly fade the color of your suits as well as damage the elastic. When it’s time to dry your swimsuit, lay it flat and avoid direct sunlight. Also, you should never leave your suit to hand dry as that can stretch it and weaken its straps.

These tips make a world of difference if you want to make swimsuits last longer, and as you can see, all of them are quick and simple so you can keep your suits looking good for as long as possible with very little effort!
