How To Get rid of pigmentation marks at home

Pigmentation marks are one of the most common problems preventing us from getting that radiant, even skin we all dream of having. These dark patches of skin, also known as hyperpigmentation have many possible causes such as sun damage, age, hormone imbalance (often as a result of pregnancy or contraceptives), post-inflammatory (as a result of skin lesions like acne and rashes), or they could just be the common freckles (usually seen on people with a fair complexion).

No matter the cause of hyperpigmentation, there are a few simple home remedies that can help you and improve your skin condition and even its tone.

Eliminate pigmentation marks

Prerequisites

No miracle solution will make pigmentation marks vanish overnight. Our suggestions may be significantly less efficient if you don’t follow a balanced diet and a few essential rules concerning your skincare routine.

First of all, you have to be properly hydrated. Those “8 glasses of water per day” have an important role in preventing premature skin aging besides other health benefits. Secondly, you need to keep your skin clean and moisturized. Washing it in the mornings and evenings with a mild cleanser and applying a moisturizing cream suitable to your skin type is a must-have.

Exfoliation is another important step with a major contribution in fading out pigmentation marks. Removing the dead skin cells from your epidermis will also allow the active ingredients in the cosmetic products to penetrate the skin better. Just remember to not over-exfoliate as you risk damaging your skin (it is best to consult an esthetician for specialized advice on the matter).

Even if your pigmentation marks are not a result of sun damage, overexposure to ultraviolet rays can make them look worse, so make sure your daily moisturizer has an SPF factor (ideally, it should not be lower than 25).

Honey For Cosmetic Use

Raw Honey

The healing effects of honey also work great against dark spots. You can apply it directly on the pigmented areas or slightly heat 2-3 tablespoons and mix them with 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil. Honey has a soothing effect on irritated skin, acne and rashes and wheat germ oil has antioxidant and cicatrizing properties. Leave on for 20 minutes and remove with lukewarm water.

Lemon Juice

You can apply lemon juice on the spots using your finger. If you have oily skin you can mix equal parts of lemon juice and rosemary tea instead. This treatment is not suitable for dry and/or sensitive skin.

Horseradish Root

Horseradish

Grate one piece of horseradish, squeeze the juice and mix it with 1-2 tablespoons of warm milk. Apply it immediately on the affected areas using a cotton pad and leave on for a couple of minutes. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is very efficient in removing pigmentation marks and acne scars. You can either apply it directly on the spots or if you have dry skin, you can mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil with a few drops of vitamin E.  This remedy works best if you leave it on overnight.

Turmeric Powder

Turmeric

Make a paste from organic turmeric powder and cucumber juice for oily skin and fresh cream for dry skin. Leave on the affected areas for 15-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

All of the above-mentioned remedies can improve the aspect of your skin and reduce pigmentation marks but not right away. Don’t try a remedy for one week and then switch to another. You will have to use most of them daily for at least one month to see results, so be thorough and patient.
